SmokeStoppers® was founded in 1977 by a team of former smokers and University of Michigan-trained psychologists. The program features a wide range of proven-effective strategies to help smokers control their smoking urges, manage nictoine withdrawal and stress, and avoid unneccessary weight gain.

Greene County Tobacco Control Program offers SmokeStoppers free of charge to help Greene County residents who want to quit using tobacco.
SmokeStoppers is a group program to help people gain the strength and
reinforcement they need to quit. Each session consists of the following:
4 Weeks, 8 Sessions
1st week: 1 meeting-introduction
2nd week: 4 meetings-quit date & quit smoking topics
3rd week: 2 meetings-continuation of quit topics
4th week: 1 meeting-party-practice social situation
An 8-week supply of Habitrol™ patches is made available free of charge to Greene County residents only.
Follow-up occurs at 30, 60, and 90 days and then at 1 year.
