Bee Free Program

The Bee Free program is provided free to Greene County residents by the Greene County Tobacco Control Program in collaboration with Partners in Corporate Health, Inc., an organization that began offering tobacco cessation services to individuals in 2000.

Partners in Corporate Health has since guided more than 15,000 people through the quit process using a customized telephone-based program. Each participant will receive an initial packet of information, telephone counseling and free nicotine replacement therapy with a physician's consent.

Bee Free services include: 

  • 8 week supply of Habitrol ™ patches or Watson™ gum (provided after receiving consent from participant's physician) 
  • Educational materials
  • Customized Tobacco Solutions magazine
  • 5 telephone counseling sessions
Our target populations include: 
  • Greene County residents with no Insurance or who are under-insured
  • Pregnant/nursing women
  • Women considering pregnancy
  • Homes with high numbers of persons with asthma

How Can You See if You are Eligible to Participate?
  1. Call the Bee Free number
  2. A screening/readiness assessment will be conducted
  3. An educational packet with welcome letter, application, educational material, and physician's consent formwill be sent by mail
  4. Incoming applications are reviewed
  5. Letter of acceptance is mailed to approved participants within 1-2 days after receiving paperwork

How Do the Services Work?
  1. Two phone coaching sessions are conducted
  2. Patches/gum are shipped
  3. Three phone coaching sessions are delivered
  4. Follow-up occurs at 30 days, 90 days, and 6-months from initial coaching session

Facts About Tobacco
Effects of Quitting After...
  • 20 minutes:
    Blood pressure drops to a level close to that before you had your last cigarette. The temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal.
  • 24 hours:
    Your chance of a heart attack decreases.
  • 1 to 9 months:
    Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath decrease; cilia regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce infection.
  • 1 year:
    Your chance of having a heart attack is cut in half.
  • 10 years:
    Your risk of dying from lung cancer is about half that of a continuing smoker's; risks of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decrease.
  • 15 years:
    Your risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmoker's.
